Workshop on Trauma Management with Cast
Application - February 25, 2001
The Workshop on Trauma Management with
cast application was held on Sunday, February 25, 2001 in the Orthopaedic
Learning Centre, Prince
of Wales Hospital.

There were totally 112 applications from 21
hospitals. They included medical officer, ward manager, nursing
officer, nurse specialist, registered nurse, enrolled nurse from
various departments, such as operating theatre, orthopaedic wards,
rehabilitation wards, A & E department and Out-patient department.
Fifty applicants attended the one-day programme which provided them
with great opportunity to share the experience as patients and enrich
their knowledge in casting.

The participants attended the morning sessions
with the principles and management of cast application, the knowledge
of casting materials, the hazards and complication of applying and
removal of cast. In the afternoon, after the demonstration of various
casting technique, all the participants had the chance to practice
applying and removal of cast. It was amazing by their seriousness
and unbeatable effort in casting their colleagues' limbs. It was
the excellent opportunity for them to experience casting others
and themselves. With this valuable theory support and practice experience,
we would surely provide better and quality care to our patients.

It was the first time that Ms.
LI Man Har Grace, the workshop coordinator, organized such workshop
with large number of applicants from different ranks and various
hospitals. We appricaite her great effort, and we are glad to have
great support from the chairlady, Ms. E. LEUNG and the vice-chairlady,
Ms. M. CHIU as well as theco-worker, Mr. Y.W. LAI. We would like
to thank all of them and also the members of the nurse subcommittee,
all the speakers, table instructors and demonstrators who contributed
their efforts generously to make the workshop successful.
